Three Ferrari 488 GTE Race Cars to Compete at Daytona
Three brand new Ferrari 488 GTEs will make their racing debut later this week at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the first round of the 2016 IMSA SportsCar Championship.
Having completed over 6,000 miles of testing, Ferrari’s turbocharged GT racer will be campaigned by Risi Competizione, Scuderia Corsa and SMP Racing in the GT-LeMans class.
The no. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 488 GTE (pictured above) will be driven by Olivier Beretta, former Scuderia Ferrari driver Giancarlo Fisichella, Davide Rigon and Toni Vilander.
I know I shouldn’t be choosing a favorite, but I’ll be cheering especially hard for the no. 68 Ferrari GTE campaigned by Scuderia Corsa. This team is sponsored by a local Southern California group of Ferrari dealerships, and features Alexandre Premat behind the wheel. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Premat at the arrive-and-drive EXR Racing Series in Fontana, California.
Rounding out the quartet of drivers are Pier Guidi, Memo Rojas and Daniel Serra.
The no. 72 SMP Racing Ferrari 488 GTE will be piloted by Andrea Bertolini, Gianmaria Bruni, James Calado and Viktor Shaytar.
Keep an eye out for these three darlings of Maranello as television coverage for the Rolex 24 at Daytona begins on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM ET on FOX Sports 1.
