Strange Whining Sound - Video Included

All,

I need some help identifying this whining sound coming from my car ('01 Turbo). It's completely intermittent and seems to have a mind of its own. It randomly happens when engine is cold or hot, outside temp is cold or hot, a/c is on or off, etc. It will sometimes come on for a few seconds and other times for a couple of minutes. Then it goes away and may not come back for days.

Car runs absolutely fine otherwise. I recorded a video of the sound and where it seems to be coming from. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

I assume it goes away when you put the clutch in ? Sounds like the power steering pump.

Agree with JSBear sound like the vibrating check valve inside the steering pump reservoir. There is a TSB for that problem. Thanks for posting a video, it is the first time I can hear it....

I think Larry (landjet) had a similar problem and it was a pulley bearing or something like that. Hopefully he will chime in!

agree with the above posts. sounds like? textbook ps pump valve whine, but really loud. mine only did it after hard runs. annoying but not mission critical. replaced as per tsb under warranty. most by now have had them replaced, i would've thought. kinda up there with the clutch accumulator issue(s)

Thanks jpflip for that TSB. I may have the same problem. W0When I slow down with the car in gear, I get a similar sound, but not as loud. As soon as I push in the clutch to stop, the whine goes away. I'll look into this when I upgrade my clutch. Thanks.
