DFI engine issue?

Take a look at this THREAD discussing severe gunk buildup on Cayenne DFI engine's valves.

Will 997.2's 9A1 engines develop this?

I was following that thread at rennlist, and unfortunetly I think our DFI engines might be affected also. It looks to follow the general design of a DFI engine, no matter what car manufactuer it is. There are reports from Audi having this problem.

Looks like I wont be affected, as my car is a 36k lease....

Hmm I think we all need some more time with these motors? I mean I've not heard of anything since September and I know of cars with 10-15k on them now?

this is getting scarry. does it have to do with the other thread where the 09 C2S is puffing too much soot from the tail pipes?

maybe good to skip the first year technology and go for a 10 model?

I do not know if there is a relation. The exhaust pipe soot is stuff escaping the engine. The intake valve gunk is stuff entering the engine to be combusted.

Will this be fixed in 2010 or will it take many more years?

food for though indeed. i know the 05 vette had a ton of issues that were fixed for 06 and a few were fixed in 06 for 07...

but thats peanuts compared to a rarely used engine type that may have some unresolved design issues

This does not mean these that these engines are lemons. All high-performance engines have issues or tradeoffs. It is however good to learn about them and know how to deal with them.

I'm curious to see what PAG is doing about this as apparently this is rampant across all gasoline DFI engines. There are several solutions.
Also... owners aware of this should avoid short trips and should change oil far more frequently than recommended (maybe 5k miles or even less) and perhaps use an appropriate oil additive.

For sure we always change the oil every 5K miles or so... Just don't leave it for 20K like some folks do

Maybe related to the heavily sooted exhaust tips that are being reported.
