2011 Manual Trans Questions

For those of you outside the US and those very few in the US that may have ordered a 2011 C with Man Trans, I have a few question;

1. How do you find the position of the stick shift in the 2011 C? Is it right on, too close, too far forward?

2. Is it comfortable with the right distance between the arm rest and the stick shift to have your elbow rest or is your arm extended forward like a cantilever beam?

3. Is the gear shifting smooth even when loaded or do find that you have to slip the clutch a lot to move forward?

4. Is the gearing at highway speeds (65-80) result in high RPMs (3000+) which in turn result in higher cabin noise?

Once again, thank you all for sharing your knowledge with me since I have a lot of catching up to do with Porsches!

Cheers
Brez

I didn't think the manual tranny was out yet for the US. Is it? My bad- you must be asking for the V6. I want the V8 in a manual.

Yes I was talking about the baseline V6. But you're right the CS or CT would be nice with manual trans.

I have to admit that it is one o the things that attracts me to the Cayenne. Has the manual trans been release in Europe yet? The initial question was asked to 2011 owners, but in view of the few replies I think it would be better for our general info if any owner of a manual Cayenne could pipe in!
Thanks in advance

My 2011 Cayenne is a manual. It caused a 2 month delay in delivery (had to wait for a later allocation) But I really couldn't imagine owning a Porsche without it being a manual.
I test drove the 2011 CS, a Volvo XC90 R-Design, and BMW X5, and decided on a fully loaded V6 Manual instead. The CS V8 was nice but coming from a background of all manual cars I couldn't make the switch to a Tiptronic. Maybe a PDK but not a basic Tiptronic it just wasn't as fun to drive.

Fantastic! I have the same thought process here. Could you comment or give me your impression relating to my earlier questions ? I have them here again for you.

1. How do you find the position of the stick shift in the 2011 C? Is it right on, too close, too far forward?

2. Is it comfortable with the right distance between the arm rest and the stick shift to have your elbow rest or is your arm extended forward like a cantilever beam?

4. Is the gearing at highway speeds (65-80) result in high RPMs (3000+) which in turn result in higher cabin noise?

Cheers

Hi Brez, I didn't get to test drive the Manual as there wasn't one in stock. (Apparently the dealership only sold 3 manuals in the past five years) So I ordered it basically site unseen. The salesperson was down in Atlanta and he test drove one and said the gearing was very smooth and had no complaints on the distance of the stick shift from the arm rest. I'll have mine in early Dec. so I can report back. Having test driven the CS and the C though I found there wasn't much difference in the 0-50 mph acceleration and overall feel. Once over that I think the CS shines. Since I am not buying this for racing or track use I opted for the C in Manual as I would enjoy my daily drive that much more. For HWY speeds at 65-80 I would think in 6th gear the RPM wouldn't be too high. From what I understood in the Manual vs. Tiptronic the low end and high end gearing is very similar. Just the 8 speed Tiptronic has more mid range gearing which helps with the fuel economy.

Well I am considering the manual V6 but I have heard that VW made this V6 and not Porsche. Any ideas about the weird vibrations that come up through the steering wheel around 3000rpm.

That looks like a nice build, I was on the fence for the pana roof for awhile. I live in Ottawa where it is freezing cold in the winter and hot sunny and humid in the summer and was told the all glass roof will make it hard to keep the cabin comfortable
Also I do a few very long distance drives a year with gear on the roof and the pana roof can transfer noise easily. Have you heard he same?

From Ottawa? I was from Gatineau, currently working in the US! I agree with the Pano. It's very nice but temp control would be difficult in very hot or very cold ( from what I have read on the subject!)

My Cayenne landed in Halifax on last Friday and delivered to the dealer yesterday. I went by today to drop off the plates and take a preview. It was pretty sweet. If all goes well I can pick it up tomorrow, just in time for Christmas.
