Previous customer of ours decided to call in a mobile guy (a different company) for the work because he was afraid of damaging his freshly painted bumper (due to an accident) from road debris on his way to our facility. The mobile installer, as you can, placed a precut bumper piece on the front bumper + a customized application for the aftermarket lower lip spoiler.

Upon removal of the film, there were deep razor cuts from the mobile clear bra installer cutting the film on the car. Some areas were primer deep, so there really was not much that can be done at the time, short of repainting the front bumper, which the customer opted not to do. Instead, he gave us the ok to reapply the film to the bumper. As upset as this customer was with this mobile installer, he decided to not pursue the damages placed to the front bumper and lower lip.

We replaced the film on the bumper / lip and as you can see night and day difference.

For those looking into paint protection film application, experience is the key. Do not rely solely on pricing or convenience as the deciding factors in choosing which company to go with.

That's very unfortunate. As always, there are those that shouldn't be working on these cars, but they do, and cause more harm than good.

Great write-up Sam. Sometimes it can be difficult to explain the importance of a proper installation. Especially when the shop down the road is a couple of hundred bucks cheaper. Until a customer faces a challenge like this, most don't understand why prices can be so much different, for a perceived similar product. This goes for our clear masks, and auto detailing services.

Just some more information on paint protection application. Paint protection film installation is very much a craft especially when it comes to customized installations. It takes many years to just become proficient with precut application and several years more for custom. This is why it is so crucial for anyone seeking clear bra installation for their new or used vehicle to not rely solely on pricing. Years in business, reviews of work, references (if possible), amount of coverage, and custom or precut application, should all be taken into account prior to making the decision.

In the case of this Lexus owner, it was not about pricing, but about convenience. This is certainly quite understandable. He relied on whomever the dealership used and believed the salesmen in that the vendor they used apply film to all of their cars on a daily basis. Unfortunately, it was not until it was brought to us that he realized there was much damage on the paint.

Hopefully, this would help others make an informed / educated decision when searching out an applicator.

 

Just ot touch on this a little its not just mobile installers that do this. I have seen this numerous times... all over the country where paint was cut up a shop. And every single time the installers say "I do not cut the paint" even though they do. Good installers are very hard to find. being in the industry I can tell you that Premier is the best I have seen and their work is second to none.

Exactly John. Although there is really nothing wrong about mobile work, this thread is more about the quality of the craft

1. Saving 20% on the job
2. Perceived saving of time
3. Convenience

All of the above is a complete wash, when you consider:
1. time of waiting for the installer to complete the work - 4 hrs wasted
2. the cost of film removal (which was not reimbursed by the other company)
3. the headache of finding out there is damage to the paint

It is unfortunate, but a reality that in general you get what you pay for.
