Unhappy tt sounds like diesel at stoplight

my 03tt is progressively sounding like a diesel while I am in neutral at a stoplight. the problem goes away if I push in the clutch. The dealer said this was the timing belt and it is normal for the turbo. Is it really normal, and should it be getting louder. I hate sounding like a diesel turbo at a stoplight. Should I have the timing belt tightened, any suggestions?

You should hear my car, I have the lightweight flywheel. It sounds as though something is loose in the car. Unless I press the clutch.

Do you still have good boost and power? Because a small leak in say an aftermarket header can sound bad at idle, but this usually gets louder upon acceleration and you didn't say anything about that. Just a thought.

Mine sounds like an F350 Turbo Diesel, however I think the lack of cats and mufflers might have somthing to do with that

thanks for help guys. Would a louder exhaust help hide this problem (I'm trying to come up with a good reason to do mods for my wife)

Mine sounds the same. I complained to the dealer several times, but they insist that is just the way it is. Mine makes the noise with clutch in or out. Solution: never stop.

That needs the engine timing chain looked at in the dealership. If the chain is loose, or more likely the sprocket is loose, it will sound as though the chain is hitting the metal encasement for the chain. This is not normal.

For crying out loud, James. You sound paranoid. Below is a quote from PhD
"Some noise is normal. You are hearing the intermediate shaft driving the chains. They have always made noise, it just wasn't as noticeable with the louder motors. Now that they are quieter they are more pronounced. If you think that is bad you should try a different clutch. Mine sounds like a freight train when sitting idle"
It's only the timing chains. Cheesh.
