THE best radar detector...

so on my way home from spending the weekend in montreal (where, by the way, there are the MOST amount of cayennes ive seen in one city in such a short amount of time!) i received a speeding ticket on i-87.

by the time my radar detector picked it up (cobra, forget which model but up there, 2nd to highest i believe in their line) it was too late. it did give me some time to brake...so he clocked me at 87 in a 65mph zone...22 mph over the speed limit.....6 point violation in NY. going to cost me a hefty sum in lawyers and court and insurance...

so instead of adjusting my driving habits, im looking for a new radar detector!! i cannot figure out which one is better, escort of v-1. asthetically i think escort is nicer, but i want the better of the two. this website seems to go along w/escort:
http://www.consumersearch.com/www/au...ors/index.html

opionions are welcome, please let me know your luck or preferences or any research youve come across!!

the cop even had the nerve to ask me "so hows that radar detector working out for you" to which i said ".....obviously not too well...."

I personally like the V1. The escort is a great radar detector as well, but the first time the arrows saved me in a speed trap I was convinced that it was the one for me.

Um, the search button is your friend. Of the 10,000+ threads on this topic, I think you will find that over 90% of the posts, and 6speeders, are overwhelming believers in Valentine1. As is every INDEPENDENT test that I am aware of. But it's your license . . .

hmm thanks, seems like v-1 is definitely the way to go.

this may sound like a stupid question, but what is the best placement for the radar detector? i keep mine at slightly above dash level, mounted on the windshield.

i will be looking into v-1 retailers later to find the best deal, i might as well go for the best!

V1 is only sold direct. It includes instructions for how to best mount it, which basically is as high on the windshield as possible without looking through a metallic strip at the top if you have one, level, and facing straight ahead.

V-1 is only sold Direct. valentine1.com

Mount is as high as you can without blocking front or rear antennas. Use the hard wire install and get the stealth display unit.

EDIT - Mexicoblue beat me to it!!

Had both....V1 and it's no comparison. Gave my Escort to my dad. Once a radar detector fails you once you don't trust it any more and you might as well throw it out. I love my V1 and it always goes off when there's a reason to...saved me countless times.

So you gave yours to your dad? Hope you will be there to accompany him to court.

V1 is the best right now. Laser Interceptor is a new one coming out and blows everything out of the water. It is also a laser jammer. Check local laws though. Here is a sight to check out. It basically covers everything you need to know.

I have the Escort Passport 8500. Got it from radarbusters.com. Good product, no complaints.

No matter what you buy, you still have to watch for cops. My eyes have saved me more than any device.

thanks for all the advice, im definitely going to get myself a v-1!

does anyone have pix of theirs mounted....i want to figure out the best most asthetically pleasing placement while still being reliable.

ive had my radar detectors low on the windshield, close to the dash, which probably kills reliability but was the most asthetically pleasing look....

but now i also have a 6 point speeding ticket to deal with!
