I rent an airfield (BMW M5 vs. the competition)

Last Sunday I rent an airfield in Sweden.

The runway was about 950 m (had to share the other half with airplanes)

I invited some friends and their cars:

Lamborghini Gallardo...
RUF CTR... (Yellowbird, except blue)
Porsche 996 Turbo Techart... (PV996TT's)
Porsche 997 Carrera S...
BMW M5 E60...
BMW M5 E39...
Dodge Viper SRT10...
MB E55 AMG
MB E55 T AMG...
MB C32 AMG
Audi RS4 Stage 2...

The RUF is in a league of its own! Clearly the fastest car of the day. The owner was kind enough to let me go a couple of times in his car, insane!

We ran 2 cars side by side, mainly doing running starts from different speeds.
The BMW M5 is very fast! I think a stock 996 T will have big problems. PV996TT has about 520 hp in his car. He was a bit faster, but the difference is not huge. Scary!

I don't agree that the new M5 humiliated the E55 not the E55T, but it is faster. I'd say the Gallardo is faster as well, similar to PV996TT's black beast.

I drove the new M5 as well. It doesn't feel as fast as it is, I woneder how many people who will lose their license in this baby...?

I couldn't concentrate on taking photos since I was in charge, and for some reason some people in fast cars had a problem following the instructions not to accelerate into the other runway where planes took off and landed

Anyway a couple of pics and links to more. I had 2 DV-cams there as well but I didn't have time yet to have a look at the material. I concentrated on the RUF and should have some in-RUF vids soon.

The E55 AMG - The Good

RUF CTR - The Bad

BMW M5 - The Ugly

I'd say these cars were faster:

RUF CTR (by far)
Gallardo
996 TT Techart
Viper SRT10

There's still dispute wether the Porsche 993 Turbo with Turbo S engine package was faster or not. I'm not sure.

In any case - you need a damned fast car to beat the new M5.

Curious,...Was this informal test run around course? Or, a straight drag? From standing start? How long? Any slalom or course times? Just to clarify.

This was an informal test. Gustav had the M5 press car for a weekend so I rent an airfield on one of the days and invited some friends so that Gustav would get some competition.

We did duels, from time to time people changed standing still, rolling start etc. but I'd say the most common method was rolling start from x km/h.

The track was about 950 m, but you needed braking before.

No slalom.

Now, was the M5 or the 993 Turbo S faster...

Humiliation is not the right word in any case.

Nice, so the e55 is about even with the m5, but with the m5 having the slight edge. ?

The M5 is faster than the E55, but the difference in 950 m (about half a mile) is not huge.

Quite impressive to see the E55 T (Wagon) which after all is a wagon with autobox run almost similar to the new M5.

But - beware - the new M5 is VERY fast!

So was the new M5 on par with the stock 996TT or did it beat the Turbo?
