Traffic Pro

I picked up the Harmon Cardon Traffic pro (Looks exactly like the Porsche unit without the "PORSCHE" name on it) unit for $450 on ebay last week... Well it came in the mail today. Brand spankin new!!! It took me 20 min to install everything was plug and play. The setup was easy and straightforward. It is a little slow. But it is pretty simple to use. I won't be using this all the time but It was a cheap way to add NAV & keep the stock look. However it will definatley come in handy when I need it. I was very surprised by it's interface. I would highly recommend the unit for those who want to add NAV but you don't want to spend the big bucks!

I've got the Porsche Traffic Pro (paid a little more) and it's an amazing little piece of equipment. Even has a compass. I use the female English rather than female American voice....sound sexier!

I saw that unit on sale at crutchfield brand new for $799.
How much of a plug and play was it?? Did you have to connect it to the vehicle's speed sensor or was that already in the factory harness?

It was this easy...

-Use provided Keys (I allready had a set) to remove stereo.

-disconnect harnesses multiple harnesses depending on which options you have. Pull stock stereo out.

-remove the plastic cover over the flashing light on the dash place the Nav antenna feed the cable down. Replace plastic cover.

- reach in pull fed cable out.

- Reconnect all harnesses, stereo antenna and antenna cable to Traffic Pro.

-Slide the Traffic pro back in...

-Go through Setup

-Drive around about a mile to calibrate the device

You're done!

I have a 2003 C2, do you think it will work???

Also, I did not see that you plugged in a speed sensor, does this mean that one of the wires in the stereo connector/harness IS THE speed sensor wire?

Not sure.. It has the speed sensor capability. Do you have MOST? I am thinking it does not work with MOST. But if you have the standard stereo you should be fine.

Eric...you've got mail (PM).
I don't think that a regular traffic pro would work with MOST due to the fiber optic harness that it [MOST] uses, not 100% sure tho, but if you have MOST PCMII can be retro-fitted rather painlessly.

Typically Nav Systems are connected to your speedo so that if you lose signal (tunnels, etc), it will rely on speed and heading to calc position. This is already incorporated in the Porsche radio via the GAL feature so there should be no need to tap the speedo cable. Reverse on the other hand is not already in there and you can either tap the reverse light directly or the gearbox/shift linkage.
Here are install instructions:

Do you know which wire is the GAL wire? Does the 01 have one accessible? Any info would be apreciated because I do not the I set that one up unless it is allready in my harness.

Eric, the GAL wire is avail on the '01. Goes into Socket A, pin 1. Since its in the harness that one is already setup. The reverse is not setup to , since its not in the harness.

The reverse is Socket A, pin 2 (right below pin 1). Need to tap reverse light or gearbox.

I'll email you the pin diagram...

Questions:

What is a "GAL"?

What is a "MOST"?

Also, does the display of the navigation integrate to the instrument gauge cluster??? i.e. like the radio info.

I have the "upgraded" but still sucky Digital stereo package, will it work?

BTW, Crutchfield has this now for $499.99, it used to be $1499, everybody seems to be liquidating this unit. What's going on? Is there a new model out.

I am trying to get him to come down on the price. I pointed out that crutchfield had these for $499... I will let you guys know what he comes back with. I paid and had mine two days later. I will have the details this afternoon.
