How to remove an ECU on a 996 Cab

Many people have been asking, so here it is... Full step by step instructions on removing an ECU on a 996 Cabriolet.
Step 1:
Lower or raise the top so it is in the middle position between down and up as shown in the photo below.

Step 2:
Reach in on each side and pull the cable connecting the back of the top to the car off the ball.

Step 3:
Pull the back of the top up so it looks like they below photo:

Step 4:
Pull up the lining to expose the ECU on the firewall by pulling the lining out of the rubber seat holding it it. Best way to do this is to towards the middle from each side. You do not need to remove it from the front!!

Step 5:
Unscrew the 3 screws holding the ECU to the firewall. The top 2 are easy, however the 3rd is below the ECU in the middle. To access this one the easiest way is to put a phillips screw driver head on a rachet, or get some type of flexable screwdriver.

Step 6:
Remove the 5 cables out of the ECU starting with the grey one on the end.

YOUR DONE, THATS IT!!

Installation:
Install the ECU by connecting the cables in the opposite order (start with the black on the end). Then bolt the ECU back in using the 3 screws. Then once you have the new ECU installed tuck the lining back under the rubber seal. Once that is done, let the back part of the top back down and snap the two cables back into place. Then put your top down and go take a nice cruise down the beach and enjoy!!!!!

Hope this was helpful!!
