1992 Mazda RX-7 FD is the Perfect Stylish Daily Driver

By -

Ever wondered what the ideal daily would look like? It’s an FD RX-7, obviously.

There are very few cars that have a timeless look to them. Something that is able to look good regardless of whether it’s 2019 or 1999. At the top of our personal list, there is the Mazda FD RX-7. There is something simply gorgeous about the body lines that surround this JDM icon. Like many of its compatriots in the ’90s — think Supra or GT-R — the RX-7 was all about style and performance.

However, we’d argue the FD is the best looking of the bunch. Sure the rotary engine never could keep up with a 2Jz or grip as hard as an AWD GT-R. But, if you get to see one of these stunning vehicles in real life, it tugs your heartstrings. We think that Khyzyl Saleem, renowned automotive concept artist, would agree. Why? His daily and only car is an FD RX-7 and it’s his job to design stunning vehicles. Thanks to Hoonigan, we get to learn the story behind the car.

According to Saleem, the FD was “his dream car since before he can remember”. He states that his initial obsession with the Japanese tuner icon was due to the popular video game series Gran Turismo. Two years ago, he finally got the opportunity to finally purchase one of these vehicles. Although the car does have some modification in its current form, he says in the future he does have something “crazy” planned for it.

Saleem states that his inspiration and love for Mazda and rotary engines came from the legendary 787B race car. Considering that this is his favorite car of all-time, the standard he has set is extremely high. We respect that. He kept the same standard with his FD build. All the parts are rare, imported, and JDM. A healthy amount of carbon-fiber graces the body of this FD. We have to say this is definitely our idea of a OEM+ build.

What do you guys think of this car? It looks so spectacular in our book. Shout out to Saleem, we can’t wait to see what is in store for the future of this car.
