2013 Jaguar F-Type Exposed in Leak
Someone over at Jaguar has let the new F-Type out of the bag.
No, it’s not as good looking or as world changing as the iconic E-type roadster, but times have also changed. Visually, its another permutation of Jaguar’s current, widely praised styling. As much as I love the E-type’s bodacious body, the F-Type is a good looking car all on its own. But it’ll need more than handsome sheet metal if it wants to compete in the sports car arena.
Jaguar hasn’t offered a proper sports car since the original E-Type. Supercars, sure. There’s the futuristic XJ220 and curvaceous XKSS, but the smallest offering from Jaguar since the mid 70’s has always been a grand tourer. Recently they’ve returned to building sporty cars with their XKR, but the F-Type officially marks their return to building cars that are actually fun. Not just classy. Or at least, lets hope so.
Ideally the F-Type will be equipped with the killer 5L V8 in the XK. In our dreams, the F-Type S will come with supercharged, 510hp motor of the XKR. Power like that would put it in competition with rivals from AMG and Porsche. In reality though, the normal model will likely be saddled with a V6. Depending on it’s size and weight, the F-Type could also be a proper rival to BMW’s Z4 and Porsche’s Cayman in terms of raw performance. How it will stand against those two “driver’s cars” in the real world is anyone’s guess.
In fact this is all anyone’s guess. I’m just glad to see Jaguar return to building cars that inspire passion. The XKR was a good start, and the F-Type is a step in the right direction. We’ll get to see this it in the flesh later this month at the Paris auto show regardless.
