2013 SRT Viper to Cost $99,395

Now this is interesting. The new V10 beast from SRT has finally been given a price, and oddly, it’ll cost considerably less than Corvette’s ZR1.

Whether or not it’s worth it has yet to be proven. The ZR1 is a known quantity. It’s been driven to death in endless comparisons, flogged around the Nurburgring, heck, they’ve even raced the thing against fighter planes. Everyone is aware of how good the Corvette is, and how well it can hang with much, much more expensive cars.

The Viper, however, is new. We don’t really have any doubt that it’s fast. I mean, it is a Viper. It’s impossible to be slow when you have an 8.4L V10. That’s 640hp, and 600lb-ft of torque in a car that weighs 3,200lbs. In typical Viper fashion, peak torque is is made at a lazy 4,950 rpms and max horsepower at 6,150. In this way the Corvette is similar. But unlike the Viper, the ‘Vette needs boost to make it’s power.

I predict that the rivalry between the Viper and the Corvette will be an entertaining one in the coming year. The next-gen Corvette has been all-but-revealed through leaks and spy photos. The trend has been moving towards smaller engines recently for a whole host of reasons. It’s good to see an old-fashioned, massive displacement sports car take on the similarly huge ZR1. Without question, it’s a good time to be a sports car fan.

Which would you choose? ZR1 or Viper? Let us know in the forums!
