2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder Essence of Open Air Motoring
Porsche is on a roll lately with their high-performance models. Even though it seems like they just released the GT3, we’ve already seen the Cayman GT4 and the 911 GT3 RS. But what if you’re a fan of pure, open-aired motoring? Well the Porsche Boxster Spyder was the car you wanted.
Now, Porsche has updated to a new Boxster Spyder and it fixed everything that was wrong with the old car while still retaining a pure essence of driving.
Unlike the previous Spyder, the soft top works like a traditional convertible. But unlike the regular Boxster, the top on the Spyder is still manually operated. The lack of a powered mechanism saves weight.
Also saving weight is the manual transmission, which is the only option on the Spyder, like on the GT4. Also, like the GT4, the Spyder has a 3.8L straight-six, but making 10 less horsepower here with 375. But that’s always been the case with the Boxster; it’s made a bit less horsepower.
Also standard is a complete lack of a radio or air conditioning. Instead of it being a no-cost delete option, air conditioning can be added for free, but a stereo is going to be a paid for upgrade.
You can already configure the $82,100 (plus $995 destination) online and order at your local Porsche dealer.
