The Ford GT May No Longer Be An “Affordable” American Supercar, but It Will Certainly Give the World’s Finest a Run for Their Money

After keeping us in the dark for two years, and selling out the entire vehicle production, Ford officially announced the 2017 Ford GT specs. Because if you thought only Ferrari could pull off such stunt, you’re wrong.

A total of 647 horsepower and 550 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s exactly what you can expect out of the American supercar once they slowly populate the streets, something which we can expect later this year. In addition, Ford claims that due to the GT’s impressive aerodynamic efficiency, and advanced active vehicle dynamics it can achieve a top track speed of 216 mph. That is considerably faster than most of today’s super cars, though no word yet on whether the GT will be equipped with a factory-installed speed governor.

Ford chooses to reveal these specifications at a very strategic time. Especially as competitors like Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini are also getting ready to unveil new or updated machinery at upcoming international auto shows. And speaking of competition, Ford went as far as releasing lap times they gathered while performing competitor testing at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Canada.

What a better way to prove one’s superiority, than to show “unbiased” proof that the Ford GT annihilated its competitors on a leveled playing field. Ford stated the following: “With all contenders track-prepped with new fluids, fresh tires and optimal suspension settings, in identical conditions and with the same driver behind the wheel, Ford GT bested both the McLaren 675LT and Ferrari 458 Speciale”

They also released the following lap times:

  • Ford GT: 2:09.8
  • McLaren 675LT: 2:10.8
  • Ferrari 458 Speciale: 2:12.9

All of this proves that the upcoming Ford GT is one serious beast. One that’s capable of taking on the world’s elite, and beating them one by one. Or so Ford says…
