2017 Frankfurt Motor Show’s Five Hottest Rides
As the largest auto show in the world, the Frankfurt Motor Show never disappoints.
Like most of its kind, the Frankfurt Motor Show kicked off its 2017 edition with two days of media preview, followed by the much-anticipated public show. It’s the automakers’ mission to jump start the glamorous show by dazzling the world’s media with their newest production models, as well as a few wacky concepts. This year wasn’t any different, but there were five rides that stood out, and 6SpeedOnline has compiled them for you.
2018 Porsche Cayenne Turbo
It’s not often that our hearts skip a beat for a family hauler, but the 2018 Cayenne unveiled in Frankfurt did just that. Although far from a complete redesign, the new Turbo model pictured here has the right lines and the right proportions to make us drool. With a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 under the hood, this 550-horsepower SUV can sprint to 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds.
Keep an eye out for it at the upcoming 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
2018 Lamborghini Aventador S Roadster
Quite literally the definition of sex on wheels. Nothing really changes from the already mighty Aventador S released earlier this year, except for the obvious. Aside from the folding hardtop, a new “Y” bridge has been installed on the redesigned engine cover, which allows outsiders to worship the 730-horsepower V12, and aids with torsional rigidity. As you know, such thing is important when driving a 217-mph Italian hair dryer. American deliveries are expected in the Spring of 2018.
2018 Ferrari Portofino
Maranello didn’t necessarily surprise anyone with their latest Prancing Horse. They chose to release the photos nearly a month ago, and unveil the car in — Portofino, Italy — ahead of the Frankfurt Motor Show. Still, we could stare this hardtop-convertible, red machine all day long. This “baby” Ferrari sports a 3.8-liter turbocharged V8, which produces a not-so-baby 598 horsepower.
2018 Porsche GT3 Touring
Don’t call it a subdued GT3. Oh, wait, yes, do that, because that’s what it is. Sporting the same 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine, which produces 500 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque as the radical GT3 — the “Touring” model is exactly that. More reserved buyers are now able to get all the “badassness” without the big wings, sticker pack, and wannabe racer look.
Mercedes-AMG Project One
We saved the best for last. The hyper-awesome, hyper-expensive, and hyper-you-can’t-get-one hypercar from Mercedes-AMG — the Project One. Despite its $2.75-million-dollar price tag, this more than 1,000-horsepower, F1-derived hybrid’s production run has been completely sold out. Besides achieving a top speed in excess of 2017, this new-age hypercar can rev up to 15,000 rpm.
