2019 Porsche 911 Caught Testing at the Nürburgring
In a time when technology evolves faster than we can even comprehend, auto manufacturers have to constantly be designing, developing and testing new technology in order to stay ahead of the curve.
For a manufacturer like Porsche, staying ahead of the curve is specially important, as their race-derived technology is only good if thoroughly tested on street applications. This can be witnessed on this 2019 Porsche 911 prototype test mule, courtesy of Motor Authority, as it laps the Nürburgring with lots of aero bits, diffusers, and sensor mounts to measure different parameters that will help Porsche learn the behavior of new technologies.
As Porsche moves forward to an all turbocharged lineup, and tries to compete with the likes of other sports car manufacturers, putting endless test miles under multiple conditions is crucial.
There’s nothing much out of the ordinary with this mule, as there’s no camo and only slight extensions of wheel arches, which could mean wider track or tires for future applications, but in reality—we don’t know. Clearly Porsche isn’t too worried about hiding much, so there must not be something extremely juicy to learn about this car.
