2020 Porsche 992 911 Carrera: This is It
Latest Porsche 911, dubbed 992, is all business up front and a party out back.
We will skip the German mullet jokes about how the 911 has the party in the back (it’s too easy), and get right into it. The next-generation Porsche 911 is coming, and it’s going to be called 992. Much like the 997 improved the basic formula of the 996 before it, the 992 generation Porsche 911 will do the same to the current 991.
As our sister site Rennlist reports, the biggest differences, at least aesthetically, is the revised rear end. The 991.2 vertical slat cooling vents make a return appearance, but beneath that are the real talking points. Those tail lights are clearly inspired by both the 718 twins and the upcoming Porsche Taycan. Beneath that is a blacked out rear valence. Said valence is packing the quad tail pipes we have come to expect. However, on either end of them are outlet ducts similar to the 996 Turbo. We dig it.
Turbocharged power will remain the de facto choice for the Carrera and Carrera S, though, a power bump is expected. Recent murmurs indicate that the standard Carrera will jump to 390 horsepower. Both a PDK and manual transmission will be available.
Naturally, we expect models like the GTS, GT3 to return, and, perhaps, even a top dog GT2 and GT2 RS to surface, eventually. More news as we get it.
