The long-awaited 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid is finally here, and it’s incredibly fast – and expensive.

Rumors that Porsche was working on a hybrid version of its legendary 911 sports car have swirled for years – so long, in fact, that many were beginning to doubt that it would ever actually come to fruition. As it turns out, Porsche has been taking its sweet time with the 911 hybrid, which is understandable – after all, you don’t just make such dramatic changes to one of the most iconic vehicles in history without ensuring that it’s perfect. Now, after years of speculation and rumors, the all-new 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid has debuted, and at least on paper, it looks like it was worth the wait.

As expected, the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid leans on electrification not as a way to improve fuel economy or slash emissions, but rather, to enhance performance. It borrows more from a Formula 1 car than something like, say, a Prius, debuting as part of a mid-cycle refresh for the 911 lineup in general. However, while the 911 is getting some updates for the new model year, the most notable is the one that lies under the hood of this particular variant.

That isn’t the twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter 9A2B6 engine present in the 992.1 911, but rather, the 3.6-liter 9A3B6 that features an electrically enhanced turbocharger, coupled with an electric motor that’s mounted between it and the newly revised eight-speed PDK gearbox (the manual is no longer available here). Officially called the T-Hybrid (Turbo Hybrid), the larger gas engine only churns out five more horsepower than the 3.0-liter flat-six on its own – 478 – as well as the same 420 pound-feet of torque, but the electric motor makes a massive difference in terms of eliminating turbo lag at lower rpms.

Additionally, that same electric motor adds an additional maximum of 54 horsepower and 110 pound-feet of torque to the 911 hybrid’s total, resulting in a combined output of 533 horsepower and 449 pound-feet of torque. It gets power from a 1.5 kWh battery that adds 60 pounds of weight, and the hybrid weighs a total of 103 pounds versus the old, non-electrified GTS coupe.

However, the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid gains a lot in terms of performance compared to its predecessor – 0-60 takes a mere 2.9 seconds versus 3.2 for the old car, top speed improves by one mph to 194, and Porsche claims that the hybrid lapped the Nurburgring in in 7 minutes and 16.9 seconds – an astounding 8.7 seconds quicker than its predecessor. Of course, all of this comes at a cost, as the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Hybrid stickers for $166,895 – a whopping $14k more than the old model – but then again, that’s the price of progress, we suppose.
