Heatin’ Up: Red BMW i8 Gets the Blood Pumping in Geneva
There are a select group of cars that are so special that it’s big news and still insanely exciting when they’re released in new colors. There’s nothing different about the models themselves, no power upgrades, no sportier canards, it’s just a new color. Yet they’re so striking that a new shade stirs the insides. One of those cars is the BMW i8.
The new color is called Protonic Red, and it just debuted at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Although the primary attraction is the exterior paint, this model actually has a few extra touches that make it more of a desire release. The trim is dipped in Frozen Gray, the alloy wheels are Orbit Gray, the interior has double red stitching, and there are some extra ceramic and carbon fiber bits.
Sales have been going well for the hybrid sports car. BMW posted 5,456 sold worldwide last year. Production begins in July.
