750 Hp Porsche 930 Takes Modern Exotics to the Wood Shed

Light weight and lots of power is more than enough for this Porsche 930 to overcome a pair of brand new supercars.

When it arrived back in the ’80s, the Porsche 930 Turbo was a proper revelation. It quite simply blew away the competition, raising the bar for sports car performance. Thus, it isn’t surprising that these turbo’d 911s are still pretty fast, even by today’s standards. But if you want to run with the best of what today’s exotic car builders have to offer, a few upgrades are in order. And suffice to say, this killer 1987 Porsche 930 has plenty of those.

The proper flat-six still resides in the back of this 911, but it’s far from stock. A full rebuild, massive intercooler, and upgraded turbos boost output all the way up to 750 hp at the crank. Better yet, this thing also still sports a manual transmission. And it’s obviously a featherweight compared to the newer exotics it’s up against, weighing in at around 2,700 pounds. Clearly, that’s a recipe for success.

Right off the bat, the Porsche 930 gives a stock Lamborghini Aventador sweats, despite some obvious disadvantages like rear-wheel drive and a lack of gears. Round two goes a little differently, however, as the Porsche downright spanks the Lambo. Next up, a brand new Mercedes-AMG GTR. The MB gets him off the line, but our Porsche driver manages to reel him in and take the win.

All of that goes out the window when the Porsche 930 gets destroyed by an 800+ hp Lancer Evolution, but those are the breaks. Otherwise, it’s pretty clear that this killer classic isn’t a car to take lightly. Modern technology might be great and all, but there’s no substitute for a lightweight, high-powered rocketship!
