992 Porsche 911 Laps Nurburgring with No Camouflage
992 Porsche 911 moves the marque forward, while embracing its heritage.
Few new cars are as hotly anticipated as the new 992 generation Porsche 911. So it should come as no surprise that Porsche has been feverishly testing its latest 911 model. Fortunately, Jalopnik was able to capture raw, uncut video of the all-new 992 Porsche 911 testing at the Nurburgring, sans camouflage.
This is a bold move by Porsche, as it is the first time anyone has seen the 992 completely uncovered. Although, those with a keen eye for details will notice it looks suspiciously similar to the 6SpeedOnline concept rendering we did in August. How very interesting.
Style-wise, you would be forgiven for mixing up the 992 and the current 991.2, at least up front. Circular LED headlights look very similar to the one available on top-spec current models. Additionally, the front bumper looks very similar to the 991 Turbo. However, the bumper has a much lower cutoff line, ending below the headlights. This design element brings the front fenders further forward. Then there is the revised hood design, which is now angular, instead of rounded off, like the 991. The tweak to the hood results in front fenders that do appear to be wider than the 991, as well.

Of course, that’s all very subtle compared to the rear end, which both looks forward stylistically, and embraces previous Porsche model design. There is an active rear wing element, which likely deploys at freeway speeds. The recently revised vertical grille over the engine bay is still present. The tail lights appear to be the biggest styling deviation, and look very reminiscent of the 996 Turbo, and maybe a splash of 993, as well.
Powertrains have yet to be confirmed for 992, but we expect mild revisions to the current turbocharged Carrera, and Turbo models to carry on. Electrification in some form is also coming. Considering that Porsche is now testing 992 sans camouflage, we expect full details and specifications to be announced shortly. Stay tuned.
