A Porsche 911 Reimagined by Singer Road Review

By -

Henry Catchpole from Carfection reviews a perfect 911 on a perfect day on a perfect road.

Is a Porsche 911 by Singer really that good? Can it possibly be worth its astronomical asking price? Would you want one of these instead of maybe, a different GT3 for each day of the week? A recent video posted on the Carfection YouTube channel has Henry Catchpole trying to help answer these questions with a test drive on some beautiful California mountain roads. Spoiler alert! Yes, the car is that good. It is a jewel on wheels. If the House of Fabergé ever made a 911, this is what you would expect to see.

For those not familiar, Singer Vehicle Design was founded by Rob Dickinson, the former frontman for the English alternative rock band Catherine Wheel. While it may seem a bit strange for a rocker to form a car company, in this case, it makes perfect sense. Music is an art form that allows one to express themselves as individuals. The cars that Singer produces are each bespoke works of art that allow the owners to express themselves through the vehicle design. Just look at the vehicles pictured here. You can’t tell us that looking at these vehicles is not as infectious as that perfect lyric that you just can’t get out of your head once you hear it.

Singer 911

A Singer car is based on the 964 generation 911. It is then, as the company says, reimagined. The car is stripped to bare metal, and a custom carbon fiber body is built. At that point, the customer has an almost endless array of options to make the car fit their unique tastes. There are of course the myriad paint options, but the customization choices are much more than skin deep. There are three engine choices ranging from 300 to 390 horsepower mated to a choice of three manual transmission options. No PDK offered here. There are several suspension and brake options to go with the wheel and tire package choices. The list goes on and on, the choices so numerous it almost makes the Porsche car configuration tool for new models seem restrictive.

The car tested in the video was customized to be a performer with carbon ceramic brakes, a 390 horsepower engine, and a sport suspension. As equipped, it is the perfect dance partner on this traffic-free road on a beautiful California day. The car is quick but approachable, as it flows from corner to corner. It is a special car that feels special all the time. Not just when being pressed hard into a corner, or diving into the brakes, but when just coasting in traffic. It is special even when parked and you can take in the details such as the nickel-plated hinges and quilted leather engine bay. The familiar shape of the Porsche 911 remains but even the uninitiated can tell that the Singer car is a different animal.

Singer 911

Starting at half a million dollars and easily exceeding the million-dollar mark, a Singer 911 is not exactly easy on the wallet. Or maybe it is. You could spend millions filling several garage bays with a number of exotics. However, the Singer has all the uniqueness and performance you could ask for in a single package. Considering the Third Imperial Fabergé Egg sold at auction a number of years ago for $33 million dollars, and you can’t even drive it, a Singer 911 could be the bargain of a lifetime.
