All of the Porsches: Tons of Photos from the California Festival of Speed

The Porsche Club of America (Zone 8) held its twentieth-annual California Festival of Speed last weekend at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. The on-track racing was intense but the real stars were the 911s celebrating their 50th birthday. Every model year ‘neunelfer’ (nine-eleven in German) was on display in the infield along with a fact-board about their respective displacement, power output and options.

At about 11AM on Saturday, the fifty 911s began filing on to the dogleg section and were arranged on the track’s massive AAA logo for commemorative photos. Fans were allowed on the track (yes, the actual track!) to shoot their own photos, after which the Porsches drove a couple of low-speed parade laps (we’d have loved to see some flat-out laps as well, PCA) around the tri-oval.

Even if you missed the stroll down memory lane, the parking lots were packed with interesting sights and activities. Magnus Walker and his 1972 STR002 911 showed along with a street-driven (!) replica of the Le Mans-winning #23 Salzburg Porsche 917K. If you wanted to participate in racing—as one enthusiastic Saturn wagon owner did—but didn’t bring your FIA Super License there was an autocross course. Overall, it was a warm, idyllic SoCal weekend and a fun time to be a Porsche enthusiast. Part one of our gallery is below.
