The team over at Jalopnik first reported on a Tesla Fire that occurred in France. The incident was photographed and posted by a Reddit user, and eventually made the rounds throughout several forums. Tesla, and its wildly popular super-sedan, the Model S has been no stranger to malfunction–and no stranger to flames either.

There have been several accounts of Model S vehicles catching fire for a variety of reasons, however this one stands out as stranger than the others. The Redditor claims that there were three people in the vehicle, one of which was a Tesla employee. They were in the car on a test drive when the car apparently flashed a warning stating “problems with charging.”

After pulling over, the car reportedly then caught fire immediately. The bizarre occurrence led Tesla to give the following statement: “We are working with the authorities to establish the facts of the incident and offer our full cooperation. The passengers are all unharmed. They were able to safely exit the vehicle before the incident occurred.”

More details are certainly to follow, however it is fair to wonder in the meantime what could have caused such a strange issue. The reviews for Tesla as of late have been much more positive than negative, even accounting for situations like this one.

A small fire in France is not likely to deter the nearly half million people that placed a deposit on the highly anticipated Model 3.
