Art Basel Miami 2013: Champion Motorsports and Michael Perez’s Porsche 911

Miami has to be the only place in the world where a pop art Porsche would come off as appropriate. I mean, LA is pretty flashy, but it’s got nothing on the festival of high-art and debauchery that is Art Basel.

Champion Motorsports teamed up with pop artist Michael Perez to create this extremely colorful 911. If you hate it, don’t worry, it’s just a vinyl. No 911s were hurt. The idea was to use the Porsche as a canvas for his piece, not necessarily to turn it into art itself.

That said, I think it’s a pretty cool looking piece. I could see this fitting in in some of the more artistic communities in San Francisco in particular. Honestly, it reminds me a lot of the Porsche customized by Janis Joplin back in the 60s. Just this one feels more coke and neon. Less LSD and tie-dye.
