ArtCenter 2015 Car Classic – Visions of the Future
On Sunday, October 25th, ArtCenter College of Design hosted the 2015 Car Classic on the lawn of its picturesque campus tucked away in the Pasadena hills. Each year, the event looks back at automotive culture and architecture by way of design, celebrating the storied works of automotive designers, many of whom graduated from ArtCenter.
For over 10 years, the Car Classic has attracted some of the rarest collectible cars ever seen at a public car show. The daylong celebration offers an eclectic mix of classic, innovative and concept cars.
A special treat for attendees, former Tonight Show host and avid car collector Jay Leno stopped by with his 1,070 horsepower 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado.
The curators of the show did a wonderful job on finding cars that were significant in regards to their design, not necessarily their mainstream popularity. We’ve all seen a Lamborghini Diablo or Murcielago, but how often do you get to see a 1985 Lamborghini Jalpa?
Talk about rare: this 1999 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR is one of only 25 road-going versions ever built. It undoubtedly stole the show for fans of the silver arrow.
The college was also open for guests to tour, allowing a peek into the development process of the next generation of transportation designers.
The ArtCenter Car Classic is more than just an annual car show, it’s a journey through design, both past and present, and a look at how our “quest for tomorrow” affects our lives today.
