Aston Martin AMR-SB Racer Proves Less is More
Aston Martin knows motorsport like no other, but soap box racing?
Racing circuits all around the world are littered with advancements in automotive technology. Efforts to appear and make things a bit more environmentally friendly have seen the complete elimination of fuel stops in top-tier series like F1, but what about changes even more radical than that?
Aston Martin’s AMR-SB takes all of the know-how of Aston Martin Racing and packs it into… a soap box derby car.
Red Bull’s Soap Box derby is more than just a straight line race down a hill. With water, jumps and other obstacles, it’s truly a test of toughness for any rickety machine willing to tackle the downward approach to the finish line.
Many teams go for a whimsical theme to simply have fun, but Aston Martin’s racing spirit was evident in the development of their newest, most efficient racer.
With only gravity to set the pace, the AMR-SB set off to a blistering pace. Alex Summers, the prototype engineer for Aston Martin pilots the British racing green coupe all the way to the finish, with several feet of air on the way down.
By the way, if you’ve never heard of the Red Bull Soap Box Race, you’re in for a treat. Ride along with Alex as he makes his way down the course in the video below. For us at 6SpeedOnline, it brings back memories of riding down hills in a little red wagon.
