Aston Martin DBS Is the Perfect Self Birthday Present: What’s up in the Forums
Who needs another stupid tie or all-white dad shoes when you can give yourself the gift of an Aston Martin DBS?
Even though 30 might be the new 20, turning 40 is still a milestone worth celebrating. And we can’t think of a better way to mark the beginning of middle age than by buying yourself a new toy. Maybe one that you’ve always dreamed of owning. For 6Speed Online member R Shackleford, that meant the always gorgeous Aston Martin DBS, one of our personal favorites.
“Figured it was time to come out from lurking as I’ve learned so much from this forum on my journey to becoming an Aston Martin owner. I have wanted an Aston Martin for as long as I could possibly remember. So I thought I’d use the excuse of my 40th birthday to finally convince myself to go out and get one.”
Sounds like a good excuse to us. Especially when the OP already tried to quell his desire with “another” brand.
“I tried to scratch the itch a year earlier with a ‘poor man’s Aston’ (XK-R). And while it was an AWESOME car, it just wasn’t IT. Several months ago, I started by looking at relatively inexpensive DB9s. I came very close to buying an ’08 sports pack car, but then decided I wanted at least an ’09. So I went back to scouring the internet. The other thing I really wanted was a manual transmission.”
Simple requests, you might think. But this search proved to be a little more tedious than the OP thought.
“Needless to say, there are just not a lot of manual transmission cars out there. The price crept up as I honed in on finding a car with everything I really wanted in a DB9. I soon found myself in low-end DBS territory. As a few months went by, I saw cars I was interested in. So I made the decision to just go for it when I found something I liked. After spending WAY more than I originally intended, I wound up with with this.”
It might sound like settling, but this Aston Martin DBS is hardly that.
“It’s an ’09 Storm Black on black Aston Martin DBS. Manual transmission with 24,000 miles. I bought it in Dallas and drove it back to Austin. And I couldn’t be happier with it! Having been a life-long gearhead, I’ve owned a lot of fun stuff. But this just takes the cake. I foresee it being in my garage for a LONG time!
Lots of firsts with this car for me. I’ve never owned anything with carbon brakes, V12, CF, etc. And I’m going to have a TON of questions as I wrangle with a couple of fiddly issues. But for now, I’m having a great time (as one of my good friends puts it) beautifying America one mile at a time. Because there are few things on the road that look this amazing!”
Personally, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate a milestone. And the sting of the high cost of entry will subside, if it hasn’t already. Be sure and check out more of this killer Aston Martin DBS by heading over to the forums!
