Behold Lotus’ Glorious Motorbike, the C-01

We love fast cars here at 6Speed. We also love fast bikes.

But what I love more than either is when manufacturers decide to make absurd concept products with no proposed utilitarian purpose other than to make people flip the hell out from the coolness of it all.

The last time this happened, Dodge went batshit insane and created the Tomahawk, which was pretty much a pair of wheels, handlebars, and a motorcycle seat slapped onto a big block 8.3L SRT10 engine, good for 500hp. Top speed? 420 mph.

Now, Lotus has just jumped off the deep end and developed the C-01, their first ever motorbike. And it’s glorious. Similarly mad, but the complete polar opposite to the Tomahawk. A yin to yang comparison if you will.

The Tomahawk was a large, hulking monstrosity that gave off a feeling that threatened the very existence of life on this planet. The C-01, is a present-day reincarnation of a promising future. It gives a glimpse into a TRON-like world of technological prosperity – largely due in part to the innovative designs of futurist Daniel Simon.

It’s featherweight light (181kg) and propelled by 200bhp and unlike the Tomahawk, it’s not just a concept.

Though there aren’t any price or performance figures yet, Kodewa – the masterminds behind Lotus’ Le Mans racer (and the new bike) has confirmed that a prototype is road registered and the bike is on its way to production.
