BMW Gets Moody With the Limited Protonic Dark Silver i8

Maybe a member of the design team broke up with a significant other lately. Or maybe his or her stocks took a dump in the market. Whatever happened, somebody was feeling dark recently and decided to craft a special-edition i8 in a color dubbed Protonic Dark Silver. Whatever it was, we’re happy it happened, because the hybrid sports car looks pretty darn slick in this dress.

This isn’t the first Protonic edition of the $140,000 futuristic coupe. We’ve already seen a Protonic Red, though this one certainly seems a little more specialized (the other just looks like red, IMO). Some other recent new color flashes include Austin Yellow, which actually fits the car extremely well, and Lava Green.

This particular color is set to make its first in-person appearance at the Paris Motor Show early next month. Although it might look a little sexier, nothing about the car’s performance changes. It still houses the hybrid powertrain that makes 357 horsepower thanks to a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder linked to two electric motors up front. The car will be available through BMW starting in December and will only be offered for a month. So, if you are into this color, you might want to start bugging your local dealer now.
