Boyota (BMW/Toyota) Venture to Spawn a $120,000 Lexus
To make sure that Toyota gets as much out of their deal with BMW, the next Supra/Z4 will most likely also spawn a Lexus counterpart too. However, while the BMW and Toyota variants will be more affordable and geared more towards the masses, the Lexus version will be more in line with a range topping sports car.
Automotive News broke the story with their future product guide. The new car, which will most likely be the LF-LC, will cost around the $120,000 mark and possibly have a twin turbo V8. The new car will have the same chassis and architecture as the BMW /Toyota variants but will have an all new body that might be more LFA than LF-LC.
Unlike Toyota’s last joint venture with Subaru, the three automakers will all likely have different bodies wrapped around each individual car making them all distinct for each brand. What’s interesting is that the joint project with Toyota and BMW will also come with a Lexus branded vehicle too, since Lexus competes with BMW.
This actually makes sense when you consider 1) the cost of a brand new low volume production model, and 2) all the rumors we’ve been hearing about the joint project having a range topping model. For a long time, everyone thought it would be the Supra, which understandably made many people sad that they would never get to drive one.
But now, with Lexus taking the top spot, it leave Toyota open to making a more consumer friendly Supra which is great. Look for all three models to show production ready bodies in the next two years.
