Bugatti Chiron: Worth the $3 Million Dollar Price Tag?

By -

Dropping huge money on a Bugatti Chiron doesn’t just get you the fastest car in the world. It gets you the best.

Buying the world’s fastest production car (at least for now) obviously isn’t going to come cheap. The Bugatti Chiron currently holds that title courtesy of an insane 261 mph capability. But those bragging rights will set you back a cool $3 million, not to mention the insane prices of maintenance. Things like tires and even oil changes on a car like the Chiron cost roughly the same as buying a cheap econobox, so there’s that, too.

Despite the immense cost of entry and maintenance associated with owning a Bugatti Chiron, however, Doug DeMuro thinks it’s worth every penny. And coming from a guy who’s driven just about every kind of car in existence, who are we to argue? Much of this self-assessment of value comes from the many incredibly cool and unique features which exist in and on the Chiron. And DeMuro, as always, does a fantastic job of going over every one of them.

One thing that really sets the Bugatti Chiron aside from everything else is its dual purpose nature. Sure, this is the fastest car on the planet. But it’s also supremely comfortable. Not, as DeMuro notes, “a crazy, loud, obnoxious sports car.” In fact, you’ll find “not one iota of plastic anywhere inside the car,” except on the seat belt buckle, where it’s required by law.

DeMuro also notes that the Chiron is “faster than any car I’ve ever driven. But it doesn’t necessarily feel faster.” And perhaps more impressively, it uses a dual-clutch transmission he calls “the smoothest, fastest-shifting, most effortless transmission I’ve ever experienced.” Which says a lot about a design most automakers have historically struggled to adapt to high horsepower applications.

All of which makes the Bugatti Chiron worth every penny of its asking price. And DeMuro sums up its value quite succinctly. “While $3 million is a truly enormous amount of money, it is, quite simply, the ultimate car. Period.”
