Buggin’ Out: Bugatti Setting Its Sights on a Sexy New Model
In the world of hypercars, one is king, the Bugatti Veyron. The amazing piece of automotive engineering is now reaching its final end leading some to hope that Bugatti has been hard at work designing and building the next one. Now it has been confirmed that there will be another Bugatti, and it’s coming soon.
Speaking to TopGear Walter de Silva, the head of VW’s design said, “we’re working hard at Bugatti, but don’t worry, its coming. I cannot predict exactly, but at the end of 2015 or early 2016, we’ll see the new Bugatti.”
And not predicting is very beneficial for Bugatti right now, because we have seen three different hybrid hypercars this year alone, and all are immensely quick and all works of art. Bugatti needs to make a car on top of all those other cars now that they have the Veyron to live up to.
But what’s more important in my opinion is that they are all also much prettier than any of the Veyrons built. The Veyron was always more of a technical exercise than a work of art. It never inspired lust, it wasn’t beautiful, and it was just supremely fast. Bugatti needs to make its next car breathtakingly pretty, maybe get some design cues off the Gangloff concept?
The next Bugatti will still be very fast, but de Silva added that it is not a Veyron replacement, or in other terms, not Veyron 2.0. He said that it will be more than a Veyron, more than a car, because in his opinion Bugatti’s should be more a work of art than car, but in the end they are a car about lifestyle rather than point A to point B.
He also reiterated that the Galiber concept would not make production, as this would confuse their customers who previously bought Veyrons.
We’ve already seen a few Veyron mules running around the ‘Ring with all sorts of contraptions and differing body styles. Hopefully the concept debuts sooner, as I am sure we are all excited to see Bugatti’s newest monster.
