C7 Corvette Takes a Punch to the Side Like a Champ
Have a look at that crashed C7 Corvette. Now, have a look at that crunched Lincoln Town Car. From this photo, the evidence is clear: the new Corvette knows how to take a punch. According to Edmunds, GM will be examining this 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to log some real-world crash test data. There’s a lot for GM to study here; after all, the Stingray held its own against a big ol’ 90s Lincoln Town Car.
An unidentified GM employee was driving this captive-test-fleet Corvette when the crash occurred in Madison Heights, Michigan, a Detroit suburb. Monte Doran, a GM spokesperson, told Edmunds he was uncertain whether the collision caused injuries.
This brings the prototype Corvette crash count to three. The first one in February involved a Laguna Blue Corvette Stingray that decided to take residence in an Arizona ditch. The media never reported the second crash, but GM says it happened two months ago in Michigan.
One cool thing we’ve learned from all this: if GM employees find an issue in a captive test fleet vehicle, they simply press the OnStar button, and the necessary data gets channeled to the appropriate GM personnel. Sounds like a great way to exterminate all those pesky pre-production bugs.
