C8 Corvette Convertible Debut Hosts Stunning ‘Vette Trio
Corvette Forum finds more than expected at C8 convertible reveal, experiencing a glorious trip through Corvette’s past.
Earlier this month, our friends at Corvette Forum got to meet the C8 Corvette convertible for the first time under the big rockets at Kennedy Space Center along Cape Canaveral, Florida. The newest addition to the new, mid-engine family was certainly cool in its own right, especially with the retractable hardtop, a first for America’s sports car.
However, our friends happened upon a trio of Corvettes parked nearby that nearly stole the spotlight from the new car, all part of the event’s “Heroes & Hot Rods” exhibit. Here’s what you can expect by reading their findings on the trio.
First, there’s Neil Armstrong’s own blue ’67 Corvette coupe. Back in his day, a nearby Corvette dealership would lease the newest models for $1 a year, like this one here. Of course, space travel and Corvettes go together like bald eagles and fireworks, so it shouldn’t be too much of a surprise.
The second classic Corvette is a white 1953 model, brought out to the party just because. More than a few future astronauts rolled up to training in ‘Vettes like this at the start of America’s space program, which forever cemented the connection between the stars and the car.
Finally, there was a 2006 Corvette convertible with a special connection to the space program. Its owner, NASA safety specialist John Legere, had the car new since at least 2007, and it’s a labor of love for Legere in more ways than any of us can imagine.
If you want to see what special secret Legere’s Corvette holds, as well as learn more about the other two Corvettes on display at the C8 Corvette convertible reveal, you’ll have to pop over to Corvette Forum. There are more photos of the cars, plus a few other surprises.
