Lost in the Beauty of This Porsche 917K
This car is a bedroom poster. It’s the stuff of fantasies. It’s brilliant, loud, a thoroughbred race winner, and probably costs more money than you or I will ever make in our lifetimes. Combined. It is a 1971 Porsche 917K, and it’s fresh off a three-year restoration, and doesn’t it just look fabulous.
Seriously, this is perhaps the coolest, most beautiful race car of all time. The Gulf livery, the simple cockpit design, and that stunning flat-twelve engine make this car absolutely bonkers. The 917K is actually a variant of the regular 917 racecar. The 917K was the short tail model, which allowed the engineers to get more aerodynamic stability at speed.
These car dominated the 1970 and 1971 World Sportscar Championships, and went on into racing legend. This particular 917K was the 1971 winner of the Spa 1000 km race, and will be racing once again at the Rennsport Reunion at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
How we wish we could be there to witness the fury that this car is capable of.
