Carfection Answers the Must-Know Questions About New Porsche 911

From behind the wheel of the new 992 Porsche 911, Henry Catchpole answers questions left on Carfection‘s Instagram.

Recently, Carfection published a video on their YouTube account answering the questions their followers felt were most important about Porsche’s newest addition. For instance, how the transmission felt from the driver’s seat, whether or not it’s suitable for daily driving, or what the cup holding situation was. Thankfully, host Henry Catchpole was happy to answer all those questions in full.

The first question he answered enthusiastically was whether or not the sports exhaust was a must-have option. To which Catchpole answered, “Yes. Absolutely.” The camera then shifted to the massive touchscreen implemented into the dash, where an “Exhaust” setting is clearly visible. That’s right, you can adjust the volume on the car’s already boisterous exhaust. Which, Catchpole made sure to point out: “To be honest, you’ll want to drive around the whole time with the sports exhaust on its loudest setting.” So, with Porsche’s new 911 (992), there will be a setting that will please both your neighbors and your friends.

Carfection’s viewers had a lot of questions about the interior – like, Catchpole’s opinion on the digital dash, the transmission, and ergonomics of the Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) controls while driving, and whether or not there were cup holders. Catchpole’s opinion on the dash was pleasant, making a positive note about the inclusion of an analog tachometer. He says that the digital tachometers are “hard to read,” so it’s a compliment to the otherwise luxurious interior. Also, Catchpole was pleased to tell his viewers that there are, in fact, cup holders.

In regards to the transmission, Catchpole thought the paddle shifting felt, “smooth and a lot more responsible compared to the Porsche 991.” Though, he’s more excited about the manual option that will be manufactured later on in production. One aspect of Porsche’s new 911 that Catchpole wasn’t a fan of was the PCM controls. “Now everything is adjusted and controlled through a touch screen. Which isn’t the most convenient due to how far away it is from the driver. Having more buttons in common areas would be way better.”

Not surprisingly, a large portion of questions the instagram account received were about general practicality. Does it feel large? Is it suitable for daily driving? Is it safe for people with families? Which, all received a thumbs up from Catchpole. Due to the 992’s responsive rear-wheel steering and increased amount of control around turns thanks to a wider front end, he feels the new Porsche is “positive, and more consistent.”

Another aspect that Catchpole felt obligated to point out, is that both the front and rear of the vehicle is spec’d with ISOFIX – so that answers the safety concern. “However,” adds Catchpole, “The rear seats are incredibly narrow so finding a car seat to fit might be a challenge… Picking up your kids in this, you’d be the coolest dad in the school car park!” In terms of size, Catchpole feels it doesn’t feel much larger than the previous model, despite the front end being wider.

Catchpole ended the video saying that all around, the car feels like a polished product – and is excited to do more road tests with the lively and surprisingly practical German sports car. From cup holders to exhaust volume settings, the latest Porsche 911 (992) is sure to please Porsche enthusiasts across the continents.
