Checking Out Bugatti’s Chiron At The 24 Hours of Le Mans
Taking A Chiron Up To 238 Miles Per Hour On The Le Mans Circuit
We’ll be the first to admit that we do not ‘parlay‘ much ‘fransay,’ but it’s difficult not to get excited at the prospect of watching this video completely in French. Language barriers aside, it’s easy to see that the guy in the passenger seat, the host from AutoMoto, is really excited about getting to ride in Bugatti’s new hyper-speeder replacement for the already damn fast Veyron.
The video opens on the Bugatti Chiron about to make its way through the parade of pilots, an event that happens in the days leading up to the Le Mans 24. This event is an excuse for fans to stand and cheer for their favorite drivers, while the drivers throw out cool stuff like signed hero cards or car-shaped gummy bears. This is also an opportunity for automobile manufacturers to show off their new cars, as Bugatti has done here. Driving the Chiron through the scrum of people, the driver blips the throttle a few times and gets people amped up.
On race day, while the cars are still lined up on the grid during the fan walk, the Chiron is wheeled out onto the circuit to run a lap with our host in the passenger’s seat again. As they exit the pit lane and start accelerating away, you can see both the driver and passenger are already excited. They’re about to take the car on a very fast run down the legendary Mulsanne straight. The pair in their Bugatti see speeds that even the fastest racing prototypes will not see during the 24 hour race. In the end, with the chicanes installed for the race, the Chiron only makes it up to 238 miles per hour. With 1500 horsepower on tap, the car could easily have gone faster with a longer straight, but we won’t know exactly how fast the car is until Bugatti unleashes the full test number, hopefully soon.
