‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Virtual 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo Looks Pretty Cool
In the next-generation of console gaming, Keanu Reeve’s Cyberpunk 2077 character drives a realistic classic Porsche 911 Turbo.
The PlayStation 5 and Xbox X are coming, and the next generation in gaming is big news. Alongside the new consoles, the most hotly anticipated game of the year is Cyberpunk 2077. The game is set in a dystopian future where Northern California is controlled by corporations and operating as a separate entity from the U.S. Gang warfare and poverty is everywhere, society is reliant on robotics, and cybernetic modifichttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nB27eykIuGA&feature=emb_logoation is rampant.
The game’s developer CD Projekt has shown off a variety of cars available to drive in the game. However, it’s this cyberpunk Porsche 911 Turbo in a video on Porsche’s YouTube channel has caught our eye as the only real vehicle to get a virtual presence.
According to Cyberpunk lore, ex-veteran, and leader of the chrome-rock rebel band called Samurai, Johnny Silverhand is a prominent figure in the resistance to the mega-corporations running Northern California. In the game, he’s played by Keanu Reeves and drives the 100-year-old 911 Turbo. According to CD Projekt, each of the cars in the game will drive differently, and the game developer went to extraordinary lengths to capture the sounds, physics, and sensations players will experience. Going the extra mile, Porsche has even recreated the car in real life and is currently displaying it at the Porsche Museum in Germany.
While the 911 Turbo appears to be the only real car featured in the game, CD Projekt pulled data from all walks of car culture. From beaters to supercars, the developer even brought in a rally team to help create the experience. For Silverhand’s 911, they put an original 930 generation 911 Turbo on a dyno to catch the sounds. In the game, and amongst other things, the classic sports car is retrofitted with autonomous driving ability, front-facing lidar, and electronic cameras instead of side mirrors.
The game releases on November 19 and will be available on the current and next-gen consoles as well as on Windows computers and Google’s Stadia cloud gaming service.
