Dear Husqvarna, Build the Vitpilen 701 Concept Yesterday
Husqvarna wasn’t feeding you a load of bologna when it said it was committed to bringing its bikes back to the streets. The Vitpilen 701 is evidence of that. Sweet, lovely, immaculate evidence.
At last year’s EICMA show, Husqvarna brought out a couple of the most beautiful concepts ever released with the 401 models giving nods to the old Silverpilen of the ’50s. It’s since been announced that those bikes are going into production as the 401 Vitpilen and Svartpilen and will be available in spring of 2017. That was step one for Husq getting back into the street bike game after getting purchased by KTM owner Stefan Pierer in 2013. Around the same time, the Vitpilen will also hit the market with similar styling and a single-cylinder engine.
But it doesn’t look like the train is stopping there. As of right now, there are already two 701 models in the Huskqvarna range, the 701 Enduro and the 701 Supermoto. Those two might be getting another brother with the 701 Vitpilen.
“The Vitpilen 701 is a real street bike that takes the next step in Husqvarna’s progressive vision of street motorcycling,” the release said. “Without following any industry rules or traditions, it is a bold step into new territory. Each and every part of this new bike concept was deeply questioned and carefully considered.”
The announcement didn’t get into any specifics, but the other 701 bikes run on a 690cc SOHC liquid-cooled single that puts out 67 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 49 lb-ft of torque at 6,500. To be honest, that probably wouldn’t even matter because this thing is so damn sultry.
Vitpilen is Swedish for “white arrow” and this 701 concept seems to be right on target (sorry, won’t happen again). Now, go pester Husqvarna with messages to build this thing.
