UPDATE: Janis Joplin’s Psychedelic Porsche 356C Sells for $1.7 Million

UPDATE: “A 1964 Porsche 356 Cabriolet owned by famous singer and songwriter Janis Joplin was sold for a record-breaking $1.76 million at an auction held in New York City,” according to Leftlanenews.com.

Janis Joplin was once one of the biggest names in the music community. She rubbed elbows with the likes of Hendrix, The Who, and The Doors. She’s been covered endlessly over time, yet in all the articles, all the books, all the news, no one ever seemed to mention her psychedelic Porsche 356C.

How could anyone miss this car? It’s an acid trip with a Porsche badge. It looks like it has a zombie on the back of it with a rainbow coming out of its head! How did everyone miss this car and not talk about it more.

Well, now that we know it exists, hopefully more people will find out about this ridiculously awesome ride. And it’s currently heading to auction. According to Hemmings, the car was bought by Joplin used in 1968 for $3,500. The story goes, she wasn’t blown away by the cars white paint, so she gave it to one of her roadies to do something with. This is what he came up with while he was high on mushrooms.

It’s definitely the most original custom Porsche 356C we’ve ever seen, and probably will ever see again. The car will go to auction in December and RM Sotheby’s predict the car will go for over $400,000.
