DTM called for aerodynamic downforce to be cut by a third for 2018. That made the cars a little slower and more difficult to drive. It also served to improve the racing and overtaking. Wehrlein went on to win four races with this car while teammate Gary Paffett took the driver’s and Mercedes the manufacturer’s championships in a sister car.
The cars were retired in their current specification as Mercedes fled to electric Formula E at the end of 2018, where Wehrlein also races these days. Now this prime specimen of the Stuttgart-based automaker’s final touring car generation is up for sale. To allow the prospective owner a rare slice of Mercedes-AMG motorsport history.
