Loic Duval Out after Huge Crash at Le Mans Practice
In Wednesday’s practice session at Le Mans the Audi team suffered the loss of their number one car. Amazingly driver Loic Duval fared much better than his Audi R18 e-tron Quattro. Although Duval was largely unharmed, the FIA WEC doctors will not clear him for competition in the Le Mans 24 hours. Marc Gene will take Duval’s place alongside Tom Kristensen and Lucas di Grassi.
The entire Audi Sport Team Joest squadron will be working feverishly to rebuild a car for Saturday’s race. However, knowing Audi and their Le Mans history, the car is probably already nearing completion.
After seeing pictures of the remnants of the R18 scattered around the exit of the Porsche curves, it is amazing that Duval emerged so unscathed. Kudos to the Audi engineers, safety equipment manufactures, and Duval’s guardian angel, who must have been riding shotgun.
