EVO Magazine Reviews the Pagani Huayra
Pagani took the the car world by storm when the released the Zonda. It was gorgeous. It was different. Most importantly, it was ludicrously fast. Since it’s release Pagani has released harder and edgier versions of the already razor sharp super car. Now they’ve finally released a proper sequel, the Huayra, and the guys at EVO mag got to take it out for a spin.
At the heart of the Huayra is a 700hp twin-turbo V12 powerhouse. It’s the same motor used by the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black, but with slightly smaller turbos for reduced lag. This is a pretty significant change over the outgoing Zonda which was naturally-aspirated. Much of the praise heaped on that car was for it’s incredibly responsive engine. Turbos trade that feeling for increased horsepower and torque across the rev range, so it’s interesting to see how the Huyra compares.
They ditched pure carbon fiber for the much sexier sounding “carbtanium” composite. Despite sounding like something out of a comic book, it’s actually a weave of carbon fiber and titanium for extreme strength and lightness. The Huayra also has some trick aerodynamic features that the Zonda didn’t, like mechanized flaps on the front and rear end.
Put simply, the Huayra is more complex than the Zonda in almost every way. But is it a better car? Watch the video to find out what EVO thinks.
