Exclusive: We Talk Drift Cars with the ‘H’ from HGK Racing
“The biggest challenge is to make it look good and have it functioning right, for the fixing points to be rigid and to be removable easy,” he says, “as well as the quick removal front bumper which latches on a CNC’d mounting point and has only two points where it is fixed to the chassis rail.” Anyone who has removed a bumper knows this is a feat. The mounting points are accessible via small panels below the front headlights. In professional drift, you have to be able to remove body panels quickly and easily, though without being so light it becomes flimsy and contacts the tires when you’re driving.
Does Skupelis have a favorite feature on the E92 Eurofighter? “Yes, the rear fender’s front part, the opening in front of the wheel,” he says. The vents are designed to pull air in, which cools the tires and then help extract smoke out the back. This is the apotheosis of form and function.
What does he think about having one of the best jobs in the world? “I feel it all as a huge experiment, it’s an endless search for the best lines and solutions.”
We can’t wait to see what he has in store next. Let us know what you think about the Eurofighter in the comments below.
