Pristine Ferrari 288 GTO is Headed to Monterey
Car week at Monterey, California is undoubtedly one of the biggest gatherings int he world for car collectors, car buyers and gear heads alike, and now there’s another reason to go.
Mecum Auto Auctions has a heck of a catalog prepared for their mind-blowing main event, which includes a Ferrari LaFerrari, an Aston Martin Vulcan, a third-gen Ferrari 599 GTO, and perhaps one of the coolest Ferraris ever, a 1985 288 GTO in none other than Rosso Competizione.
This stunning and jaw-dropping prancing horse is a desirable European spec, and has only covered 11,980 kilometers in its 31 year life, which is approximately about 7,400 miles or so. Surprisingly, that’s quite a few miles for a 288 GTO, but experts believe it won’t hinder the price, as there are virtually no similar models currently on the market.
Under the hood of this red Pininfarina beauty is a 2.9 liter twin-turbocharged and twin-intercooler V8 engine that produces a whopping 400 horsepower, which back in 1985 was kind of outrageous. Only 272 units were produced, and this particular vehicle is expected to bring anywhere from 2 to 3 million dollars.
See ya in Monterey!
