Ferrari Is Auctioning A Special LaFerrari To Benefit Earthquake Victims
A series of earthquakes have ravaged central Italy this year, first in August, and later in October. As a result, there are a number of buildings damaged, people injured, and even worse, the quakes left over 300 fatalities. The most severe of the thousands of earthquakes experienced in the last 6 months registered a moment magnitude of 6.2 on August 24th. Even the aftershock of that particular quake, about an hour later, registered at 5.5. The economic cost of this natural disaster has been estimated as high as eleven billion dollars, a fourteenth century church was severely damaged, and an art museum collapsed.
In an effort to help fund rebuilding efforts, Ferrari and the National Italian American Foundation will be auctioning off this special one-of-a-kind LaFerrari hypercar to benefit their Earthquake Relief Fund during the “Finali Mondiali” festivities at Daytona International Speedway this upcoming weekend. Aside from, you know, being a LaFerrari, this car is special in that it has received an Italian flag “livery”, and a special plaque on the dash. Being that every LaF of the originally planned 499 unit run is already sold, and you cannot buy a brand new one anymore, this one being auctioned could bring quite a price. Ferrari decided to build a 500th piece for this auction, so this is the last brand new LaFerrari available to anyone ever. I watched a ‘regular’ LaFerrari sell during the Monterey auctions for a staggering 5.17 million dollars, so I can only imagine what a LaFezza for charity will bring. If you want this one, bring your check book, because the bidding will likely be crazy. You can read more about this lot on the auction house’s website by visiting rmsothebys.com.
