Ferrari F12, 296 GTB Driven by Tourists Crash in Italy in Highly-Dramatic Fashion
Both the Ferrari F12 and 296 GTB took a corner far too fast and wound up going airborne before smashing into a fence.
While somewhat rare, supercar crashes do happen, and for good reason – we are talking about supremely capable machines that far exceed the capabilities of most people that drive them. This is true of most everything sold by Ferrari, an iconic Italian brand that has been building some of the finest supercars on the planet for a very long time. Recently, however, a group of tourists destroyed two of them in their homeland – a Ferrari F12 and 296 GTB – according to Italy 24 News.
Since then, multiple videos have emerged showing precisely what happened, and we can clearly see both cars approaching a corner at high speed, apparently being driven in a rather reckless manner. Both cars don’t have enough time to slow down ahead of the sharp curve, and instead smash into an embankment at high speed, which acts as sort of a ramp and sends the prancing horses airborne. Both wind up flying through the air like a scene out of a movie before crashing into a fence and coming to an abrupt halt.
Making matters worse, the Ferrari F12 caught on fire almost immediately, likely due to the fact that its engine is located up front, while the 296 GTB is mid-engine. Both cars, on the other hand, suffered serious damage as a result of this poor decision making, likely beyond the point of repair.
As for the drivers – who were reportedly visiting from either the Netherlands or Belgium – they didn’t escape unscathed, as both were airlifted to the hospital, but neither suffered serious injuries as a result of these nearly simultaneous crashes.
Sadly, the supercars involved in this wild double crash didn’t fair quite as well, but it’s unclear if they were rentals or if they actually belonged to the tourists. Either way, we imagine that they’ve got a hefty bill coming their way after what looked like the vacation of a lifetime ripping up the Italian countryside turned into a total nightmare for all involved.
