Ferrari F430 Muffler Delete: Does It Improve The Sound?
The muffler on a car makes sure you don’t wake the dead when you fire it up. So, what happens when you remove the muffler on a Ferrari F430?
We have all heard the lawnmower sound effects coming from a modified Honda Civic without a muffler. The droning noises emanating from a pedestrian motor without muffler can be horrible. As an added bonus to sounding bad, removing your muffler car also make your car lose horsepower, at least in theory. Some people will tell you that muffler is helping with exhaust back pressure, which improves overall exhaust flow.
On a turbocharged car less back pressure usually means more power, but even those motors have limits. The usual and immediate response to a droning car is a sarcastic comment or plugging of the ears. with most cars muffler deletes are certainly much louder, but not better sounding.
This isn’t the case with the Ferrari 430. With the bumper off, and the muffler removed, this F430 is downright rowdy. The revs give a nice roar but the downshift makes us all smile. Ripping down the street, the crackles and pops made us sit up a little straighter. The boys from JR Garage couldn’t believe how glowing red the catalytic converters were after a nice flogging down the road. They also loved the flames shooting out the back at speed.
